چکیده

A simulation algorithm is proposed that predicts the lighting energy performance of manually and automatically controlled electric lighting and blind systems in private and two-person offices. Algorithm inputs are annual profiles of user occupancy and work plane illuminances. These two inputs are combined with probabilistic switching patterns, which have been derived from field data, in order to predict the status of the electric lighting and blinds throughout the year. The model features four different user types to mimic variation in control behavior between different occupants. An example application in a private office with a southern facade yields that –depending on the user type– the electric lighting energy demand for a manually controlled electric lighting and blind system ranges from 10 to 39kWh/myr. The predicted mean energy savings of a switch-off occupancy sensor in the example office are 20%. Depending on how reliably occupants switch off a dimmed lighting system, mean electric lighting energy savings due to a daylight-linked photocell control range from 60% to zero. keywords: lighting controls, daylighting, user behavior models

Adding advanced behavioural models in whole building energy simulation: a study on the total energy impact of manual and automated lighting control

Behavioural models derived from on-going field studies can provide the basis for predicting personal action taken to adjust lighting levels, remedy direct glare, and save energy in response to physical conditions. Enabling these behavioural models in advanced lighting simulation programs, such as DAYSIM and the Lightswitch Wizard, allows for a more realistic estimate of lighting use under dynam...

Energy and visual comfort analysis of lighting and daylight control strategies

Shading systems have the potential to reduce energy consumption of electric lighting and improve visual comfort. Various automated control systems of shading device and electric lighting have been widely used. However, existing lighting and shading systems typically operate independently, i.e., information is not shared, and thus system performance is not optimal. Therefore, integrated control ...

Illuminance-based slat angle selection model for automated control of split blinds

Venetian blinds play an important role in controlling daylight in buildings. Automated blinds overcome some limitations of manual blinds; however, the existing automated systems mainly control the direct solar radiation and glare and cannot be used for controlling innovative blind systems such as split blinds. This research developed an Illuminance-based Slat Angle Selection (ISAS) model that p...

Dynamic Modeling of a Robot Manipulator for Opening the Tap Hole of an Electric Arc Furnace

The electric arc furnace (EAF) is used to produce high quality steel from steel scraps. The EAF uses plasma arc to generate heat for melting scarp or direct reduced iron (DRI). The liquid metal should be drained from the tap hole. Manual tapping operation of the EAF in the hot environment around the furnace is a potentially dangerous and time consuming task for the workers. Therefore, it is ess...

Electric lighting energy savings for an on/off photocell control – a comparative simulation study using DOE2.1 and DAYSIM

This paper suggests a method how to predict electric lighting energy savings for photocell controls in daylit spaces taking manual blind control into account. The method predicts lower but supposedly more “realistic” lighting energy savings than conventional simulation approaches. On the other hand, predicted savings are larger than those predicted by ASHRAE 90.1 power adjustment factors. The m...
